31st Annual Disaster Preparedness Academy
Fires, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, terrorism and active shooters, geological hazards, transportation accidents and more! These are just some of the disasters we need to be prepared to face.
The American Red Cross and its partners make preparedness more easily achievable through the Disaster Preparedness Academy (DPA). Now in its 31st year, the DPA’s mission is to provide information to the community regarding emergency preparedness planning, mitigation, response and recovery.
About the DPA:
•Click Here to view the 2015 DPA Workshop Schedule•The DPA is designed to be interactive and informational through three main sessions and over 20 workshops. This year we have added additional hands-on life safety sessions during the academy. •Workshop sessions are led by industry experts on topics such as earthquakes, terrorism, active shooter incidents, evacuation planning, pandemics, school and university preparedness, business preparedness and resiliency planning, drills & exercises, and more.•Attendees will gain valuable resources to assist their organizations in taking the next step in preparing for disasters.•Attendees will have access to exhibitors providing information and products that will help everyone prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.•NEW THIS YEAR: Participants will not register to attend specific workshops. Instead, attendees are free to attend any workshop or track. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pre-Academy
The Pre-Academy will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27th at the Red Cross Serving Orange County, located at 600 Parkcenter Dr. in Santa Ana. The Pre-Academy provides an additional opportunity to refresh your response skills. New this year, the skills training will be split into two days. The Pre-Academy training will consist of classroom instruction and light demonstration on Oct. 27. The hands-on portion will consist of a simulated scenario workshop offered at the DPA on following day, Oct. 28. You must register to attend each day; registration for the Pre-Academy does not include admission to the DPA.

Each year, the DPA caters to a wide audience including businesses, schools, government entities, faith-based and non-profit organizations and more. Last year, over 700 people were in attendance.
