Stories From The Washington ShakeOut

We had been discussing the great washington shake-out for a few weeks before the drill. The day before the drill, i went through the office and told everyone that the drill was taking place the next day, but not the time. The next day I went through the office shouting,"earthquake.". I was surprised and very pleased to see everyone dive under a desk and hold on until the shaking (announced by me), stopped.
When everyone was upright we discussed what we would do after the shaking was over; the recovery. Since we are a physician practice, we have patients to consider. We have much more discussion to feel confident that we can care for patients if the worst happens and we have an earthquake during patient treatment days.
We have an earthquake supply room with, hopefully, enough supplies for 3 days--food, water, first-aid and things like insulin because we treat many patients with diabetic related eye problems. we also have a NOAA radio that is hand cranked as well as battery-operated. We still do not feel totally prepared because we have patients to consider-but the drill was so helpful.
