Full Description:
As part of the events surrounding the bi-centennial anniversary of the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-12, the Mid America TEEN CERT (Teen Community Emergency Response Team) program is hosting a GIS/GPS Mapping Workshop from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, May 5, 2011 at Fort Zumwalt North High School Auditorium, 1230 Tom Ginnever Avenue, O'Fallon, MO 63366.

The workshop is open to the public free of charge to anyone 12 years and older, including CERT members, first responders, school personnel and anyone wanting to know more about the usefulness of geospatial technology when working with disaster preparedness.

This workshop will provide an overview of the Geographic Information and Global Positioning Systems and introduce you to alerting, evacuation and sheltering in the event of a disaster. This is a hands-on workshop and participants will experience using GPS units, collecting data, using laptops with GIS software, collecting points and producing a map that they can take with them at the conclusion of the workshop.
