The 2nd Annual Preparedness Fair Saturday February 4th will help you begin your efforts to survive future short term and/or long term disasters.
Attendees to the diverse booths will gather materials and tips from 32 presenters!
Some of the topics that will be covered include:
· Building an Emergency Shelter
· 72-hour survival kit
· Emergency Water Needs
· Food Storage
· Emergency Food Preparation Tips
· Alternative Cooking Equipment
· Stress Management Tips
· Protecting Your Documents
· and much more.
Presenters include Brian Blake, Program Coordinator for Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium (CUSEC), earthquake specialists from SIUC, Sarah Heyer of Map Your Neighborhood Carbondale, representatives from the Jackson County Sheriff’s department, the Murphysboro Pomona Somerset volunteer fire department and the Jackson County Emergency Management Agency, Angie Bailey of the Jackson County Health Department, and Brian Manwaring of the Murphysboro EMS.
CUSEC’s Brian Blake will kick off the event at 2pm with a ShakeOut talk which includes information on what to do when the ground starts to shake and ways to protect yourself in the home. He will also give us details on how to participate in the Great Shake Out earthquake drill February 7th at 10:15am. http://www.shakeout.org/centralus/register/ The movie “Suddenly… on an Average Day” will also be presented. (“Suddenly… on an Average Day” is the title of the DVD that Assistant Dean of the College of Science, Harvey Hanson at SIU Carbondale and Scott Hodgson of University of Oklahoma produced with grant support from IEMA and in partnership with CUSEC.)
A Red Cross blood drive will be held simultaneously at this location from 2-6 pm.
