Stories From The California ShakeOut

The Walt Disney's divisions in Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena routinely participate in the Great ShakeOut each year. In our building, we played earthquake sounds over loud speakers to make then drill a little more realistic. Typically, after doing the DROP - COVER - HOLD ON during the drill, we meet in redezvous areas inside to do a roll call to make sure everyone is accounted for. If an actual earthquake were to occur, this would the time we begin the triage process for us.
Usually, after the roll call, everyone is released to go back to work, but this year, we brought everyone together to talk about the drill, talk about our building's emergency plan, discuss best practices, answer questions, and encourage everyone to develop their own emergency plans for themselves and their families, including developing kits for their cars and homes. It was really helpful, and we will do this again next year.
