When the ground starts moving again in California during the next earthquake, where will you be if you’re not at home…and what will you do? You’ve seen the articles and heard the news reports: seismic issues related to buildings continue to gain the interest of the public and policy makers across southern California.

■ Public Officials will learn best practices for feasible and effective policy to build resilience.

■ Building Owners and Managers will learn strategies to retain asset value and techniques to protect their tenants & investments.

■ Owners of Institutional and Public Buildings will learn how to optimize their role in community-wide resilience through approaches to address building performance.

■ Business Owners and Corporate Risk Managers will explore the relative effectiveness of continuity planning vs. location selection vs. insurance.

■ Insurance Industry Representatives will gain insight for refining exposure and expanding offerings, while networking across industries.

■ Emergency Managers & First Responders will gain insight for planning response, building preparedness, and prioritization of post-event resources.

■ Engineers and Architects will gain the perspective of varied stakeholders.

Goals:

1.Educate those present on the latest tools, techniques, rules, and proposals — and how to use them – as related to a building seismic stability and performance.

2.Demonstrate how buildings connect to the environment and other buildings around them, and how this interaction can make a difference in survivability and usability.

3.Convene government, business, and technical experts to move forward together to address the community’s need for preparedness.

4.Highlight trends and best practices for building owners, businesses, and government in addressing existing buildings built before the latest code updates.

Every year, the BAR Summit, presented by the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC), brings together community leaders to present resources and tools for building owners, businesses, and government officials to understand the risk they face and how to mitigate losses.

The public is looking to civic leaders to protect them, and the issue has the attention of elected officials. The 2014 BAR Summit will delve into Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s and Dr. Lucy Jones’ proposal for building retrofits and a rating system, and their offices will be helping to create content for the event.

The exposure on this timely and cross-cutting issue provides sponsors with targeted visibility to leaders and practitioners alike. With expected attendance of over 200 and the resulting anticipated media coverage, this event provides a unique opportunity to highlight your commitment to the region’s economy and well-being, as well as your commitment to public safety.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Be a part of the solution! Support the BAR Summit so that, together, we can build a safer California. Click here to find out how you can be involved in California’s premiere structural seismic safety event.
