Summary:
Volunteer docents from the Audubon Society's Wetland Education Program at the Ballona Wetlands will participate in both an earthquake and Tsunami drill as part of the Great California Shakeout on October 16, 2014.

Full Description:
The Los Angeles Audubon Society conducts environmental education themed school tours for students from across the LA region at the Ballona Wetlands. On October 16th our staff of volunteer docents will participate in the Great California Shakeout. Docents will be instructed on what to do in the event of an earthquake during a school tour, and will also go through a Tsunami evacuation drill. The wetlands are, by their nature, located on extremely low-lying ground and adjacent to the ocean. Therefore, if shaking of a quake lasts more than 20 seconds, there is potential for a tsunami to inundate our educational site. Participants will be trained to lead their student charges to higher ground after the earthquake drill.
