(October 17, 2011) Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, California, together with the American Red Cross Ventura County, is joining in the Great California ShakeOut, the world’s largest earthquake preparedness drill on Thursday, October 20th at 10:20 a.m. Key hotel leaders, trainers and employees from the hotel’s safety team will gather in the hotel’s state-of-the-art laundry facility to participate in a presentation on earthquake preparation from Regional Executive Jim McGee of the American Red Cross Central Coast Region. This will be followed by a drill to practice the appropriate steps to take in an emergency. Media are invited to cover and participate in the program by confirming with a media contact below.

“The safety and comfort of our employees and guests is our highest priority. Preparation is key to ensuring our team responds safely and effectively during an emergency,” said General Manager Michael Newcombe, Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, California. All hotel departments will be represented including the front desk, spa, security, administration, culinary, restaurants servers, housekeeping and more.

“With support from individuals, organizations, businesses and government agencies, our goal is to create more resilient communities that are better equipped to help each other prevent, prepare for, and respond to life-threatening disasters,” said CEO Jim McGee, American Red Cross Ventura County, a proud sponsor of the Great California ShakeOut. “We wanted to partner with Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, an exemplary local business that puts the safety of their guests and employees first. This hotel itself is an example of a building that exceeds all construction codes for earthquake safety.”

According to the Red Cross, Southern California is one of the most at-risk areas for earthquakes. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) predicts that Southern California is long overdue for the “Big One,” an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 or higher. If an earthquake this size jolts the lower half of the San Andreas Fault, an estimated 430,000 businesses and 4.5 million workers would be affected, crippling the area’s economy.
