Summary:
A field trip along the San Andreas Fault from Redlands to the Salton Sea led by San Bernardino County Museum Senior Curator Kathleen Springer

Full Description:
Museum trips to explore San Andreas Fault

San Bernardino County Museum Senior Curator Kathleen Springer will lead a field trip for the public on September 24 to explore the southern San Andreas Fault. Registration is now open for the excursion, which departs from the museum in Redlands; reservations are required.

Participants in “Epicenter of the Shakeout: San Andreas Fault, Redlands to the Salton Sea” will travel along the fault from Redlands south to the Salton Sea. The one-day trip costs $60/person for members of the Museum Association and $70/person for non-members. The fee includes transportation, morning coffee, lunch, and snacks. Be prepared for some walks up to one-half mile long over uneven terrain.

Springer will lead another trip along the fault on October 15, this time from Redlands to Los Angeles County. The cost is the same; that trip will incorporate some challenging rock-scrambling. The Great California ShakeOut, the nation’s largest earthquake preparedness drill, will be held at the museum on Wednesday, October 20, at 10:20 a.m. All participants on Springer's field trips as well as the ShakeOut at the museum will receive earthquake preparedness kits courtesy of the museum's ShakeOut partner, KVCR.

Reservations for either or both field trips along the fault can be made by calling Melissa Sanchez at the San Bernardino County Museum Association, (909) 307-2669 ext. 250. Museum visitors who want to participate in the Great California Shakeout will be admitted to the museum free on October 20 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. If assistive listening devices or other auxiliary aids are needed in order to participate in museum exhibits or programs, requests should be made through Museum Visitor Services at least three business days prior to your visit. Visitor Services’ telephone number is 909-307-2669 ext. 229 or (TDD) 909-792-1462.
