Full Description:
On ShakeOut Day, San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) will stop all trains for about one minute and use the time to say "thanks" to its riders and the public for their overwhelming support for a BART Earthquake Safety bond measure. The agency will also use the symbolic stopping of trains to remind customers about why BART stops trains immediately after even minor quakes. "The Great California Shakeout," in the Bay Area this year will commemorate the 142nd anniversary of the last major earthquake on the Hayward fault, which occurred on Oct. 21, 1868.

BART's commitment is to keeping its 350,000 daily riders safe and Bay Area economy moving following the next major earthquake.
