Summary:
Please join Kathleen Springer, Senior Curator, and J. Chris Sagebiel, Curator of Geology on a day trip to the San Andreas Fault from the Museum to Devil’s Punchbowl County Park. We will traverse the fault as it makes it way through the Cajon Pass with stops at Blue Cut and Lost Lake in Lone Pine Canyon. In the San Gabriel Mountains, in the town of Wrightwood, we will view the evidence of faulting from a major quake 1812 as well as observing the rupture from the last time the San Andreas thundered mightily in Southern California, in 1857. At Big Pines, we will reach the highest point on the San Andreas Fault before descending into the desert to catch up with the fault again where it is spectacularly displayed at Devil’s Punchbowl.
