Summary:
1868 Haward Fault Earthquake History Dinner/Illustrated Talk

Full Description:
Historian Richard Schwartz will give an illustrated talk on the events leading up to the 1868 Hayward Fault Earthquake, first-hand accounts of people who lived through the event, the aftermath and an analysis of damage on buildings, what the people of that day learned from the quake, and what was done and not done in the months and years following this "Big One" on the Hayward Fault. In 1868, 24,000 people lived in proximity of the fault, instead of the 2.4 million who blanket it today. Schwartz will also compare our modern environment to the local world of 1868 and its significance to us.
Richard is a historian, author, and a building contractor specializing in seismic retrofitting. He is certified by the State of California to condemn buildings after an earthquake.
